Susan Graham has secured her place among the highest echelon of performers, mastering an astonishing range of repertoire and genres along the way. Now, Graham returns to Cliburn Concerts this season, more than 20 years after she was there last, with pianist Malcolm Martineau. Check out this must-see performance on Thursday, February 13th!
Susan Graham’s talent is unmistakable. The Midland, Texas-raised mezzo-soprano and graduate of Texas Tech University and the Manhattan School of Music was dubbed “America’s favorite mezzo” by Gramophone magazine and hailed as “an artist to treasure” by The New York Times.
A familiar face at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, she also maintains a strong international presence at such key venues as Paris’ Théâtre du Châtelet, the Sydney Opera House, Santa Fe Opera, and the Hollywood Bowl. She also sang at George W. Bush’s second inauguration and Senator Edward Kennedy’s funeral mass.
“Graham’s mezzo-soprano is a voice without regrets, healthy, rounded, ineffably musical, and eager for a challenge.” —The New Yorker
Malcolm Martineau was born in Edinburgh, read Music at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge and studied at the Royal College of Music. Recognized as one of the leading accompanists of his generation, he has worked with many of the world’s greatest singers including Sir Thomas Allen, Dame Janet Baker, Sarah Walker, and Bryn Terfel. He was given an honorary doctorate at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 2004 and appointed an International Fellow of Accompaniment in 2009.
